Always-on buying & selling: FAQ

What’s changing? Why?

Starting May 19th, 2026 at our Tuesday drop, you will be able to purchase items that are listed for sale on LS any day, any time – we are retiring our monthly Buy & Sell Days experiment.

Trading is also now completely free across all groups — no exceptions. Previously, newer groups included a $2.99 fee after your first trade each month. That's gone!

How will this impact my trading experience?

It shouldn’t, with one important and temporary caveat. Just like it is today on LS, only items that are explicitly marked for sale can be purchased at their listed price. The caveat: if there is a pending trade request or inquiry on an item, purchasing it will close any open trade requests. This is a tech limitation of our current build that we know isn't ideal, and it's next on our roadmap to fix.

If your item gets purchased while an active trade is open, it’s up to you on whether you’d like to honor the sale. No matter your decision, make sure to let the other person know – a quick message goes a long way, and it’s what we do here on LS.

If you’d like to cancel the sale of your item, please reach out to support – tap the ? in the bottom left corner of the app homepage – and we can assist.

From our Circular December survey, 70% of you told us that buying and selling all month didn't change how you traded, and felt no impact on your trade activity. 16% told us it actually made trading feel easier— more people on the app, more activity overall.

Are there any fee or pricing changes?

Yes — and it goes even further to protect our forever trade-forward ethos.

Trading is now completely free across all groups, no exceptions. Previously, newer groups included a $2.99 fee after your first trade each month. That's gone.

Buy and sell fees remain the same as they've always been during Buy + Sell Days.

Our goal has always been to make trading the most accessible, frictionless way to move clothes between people who love them, so this felt like the right moment for this change.

How will this impact my buying and selling experience?

The recurring Buy + Sell Days event has served us well, and we are officially retiring it. Items marked for sale can now be purchased any time.

Prices are never shown while you're passively browsing. If you're interested in an item that's available to purchase, tap to request it and select Purchase — that's when the price appears.

One thing to note: Buy + Sell Days previously allowed purchases across any group, even ones you weren't a member of. We're not launching with that functionality, but we'll revisit this in the future.

How do I know if something is for sale?

Items available to purchase have a "For sale" badge on the listing — you'll spot it while browsing.

When you tap to “Request” an item that's for sale, you'll see both Trade and Purchase options. Select Purchase and that's when the price appears. If it feels right, purchase as you normally would — we'll place a hold on your card, you'll choose your shipping preference, and your card is charged when the seller creates the label and ships.

If there's no badge, the item isn't available to purchase. Please respect that — don't ask sellers to sell something they haven't listed for sale. Not every item needs a price, and not every member wants to sell. That's what makes this space work for everyone.

Does this mean that you’re just turning into Poshmark or another secondhand marketplace?

Absolutely not. Adding the option to buy and sell doesn't take away from what we’ve built together — you’ve proven that to us through our incremental experiments of introducing sales to the LS ecosystem.

We are not another secondhand marketplace. We never will be. We’re a place where you explore new parts of your style identity, connect with people who care about sustainability and killer clothes, and find amazing items to add to your closet along the way. Every item on LS is — and will always be — available as a gift or a trade, and now some items will also be available to purchase anytime.

The experience is designed to stay trade-forward: prices never appear while you're browsing, trading is always free, and buying is an option you can turn off entirely in your settings. We don't allow selling language in item descriptions or profiles. People purely interested in reselling are not welcome here — all items must be listed for trade, with purchasing as an optional additional preference. We're a community that happens to have a closet. Not a marketplace that happens to have community features. That distinction is everything — and it's built into every design decision we've made.

I really don’t need somewhere else to buy or sell. What if I truly want to enjoy the trade only aspect of LS?

Well – you’re in the right place! We built for you specifically.

If you never want to see prices or purchase options, there's a toggle in your settings that turns it all off. Just head to the settings menu of your profile. The app will look and feel exactly the way it always has.

If you're open to selling but not purchasing, you don't need to do anything — prices only appear when someone actively chooses to pursue a purchase. Nothing shows up in your feed to factor in or impulse-buy from.

Can I just sell and buy, and not trade? Is there a way to express one preference over the other?

LS is trade-forward, buy-curious — that's not just a tagline, it's how the app works. Trading is always the default and always free. Buying and selling are available tools, not the primary experience.

To keep LS feeling like LS, we don't allow any mention of selling or pricing in item descriptions or profiles. Your listing's availability settings are where you communicate your preferences.

Can I use the description of my item listing to state my preferences on whether I want to trade or sell something?

No — the rules around mentioning selling or pricing in descriptions stay exactly the same. Your listing's availability settings are where you set your preferences. That's what they're designed for.

I’m not happy with the price of something that’s listed. Can I negotiate?

We trust sellers to set their own pricing and ask buyers to make their decision based on the listed price.

We know haggling is standard on other platforms — it's just not how LS works. If a price doesn't feel right to you, it's okay to move on.

Down the road, we're working on letting sellers mark items as "firm price" or "open to offers" so preferences are clear upfront. Until then, please respect listed prices and report anyone who pressures a seller to negotiate.

What happens if I’m in the middle of a trade, and then someone else purchases the item?

We're sorry — we know how frustrating that could be. Right now, purchases take priority over open trade requests. It's not ideal, and fixing this is next on our roadmap. Once resolved, purchases will work as requests, just like trades, so open conversations will be protected.

If this happens to you in the meantime, reach out to support — tap the ? in the bottom left corner of the app homepage — and we'll cancel the purchase so your trade can move forward if that’s what you prefer.

I used to have to enter the Buy + Sell days event to see prices. How will this work now?

Buy + Sell Days are retiring, so there's no longer an “event” to enter. Prices are now woven into the app year-round — but we've been intentional about where and how they appear.

You'll never see prices while browsing. If an item is available to purchase, it'll have a small "For sale" badge on it. Tap into the item and select Purchase — that's when the price appears. It only shows up when you're actively looking for it.

How do I offer certain items for sale?

Same as always — it lives in your item listing settings. Open any item in your closet, tap to edit, and you'll find the option to offer it for sale and set your price.

Can I bundle items for sale?

Not yet! But soon! Gifts too. In the meantime, if you’d like to purchase multiple items from another LS member’s closet, contact support and we’ll take care of it.
